Setsubun’ originally refers to the day when the season changes in Japan, and each season used to have it. But these days Setsubun signifies the day before spring starts and it is Feburuary 3rd.
To get rid of invisible negative vibes, people usually scatter roasted soy beans both inside and outside of their houses. Some people eat sushi rolls called Ehomaki, as looking in the year’s good luck direction and eating quietly while making a wish. This year’s good direction is said to be west south west.
