As of October 1, 2010, the Japanese government will be conducting a Population Census.
The Population Census is a statistical survey which is conducted according to the law and covers everyone living in Japan, regardless of nationality. You are legally required to respond.
Your responses will not be used in any way for immigration control, police investigations or other such purposes.
Starting at the end of September, Population Census Workers will visit all households to distribute Census forms.
The data collected from the Population Census will be used as a baseline for city planning and other measures which benefit foreign residents as well as Japanese citizens.
